Most insect bites settle on their own, but some become infected, with spreading redness, swelling, heat or pus around the bite. An infected bite needs proper assessment and sometimes antibiotics.
Through the NHS Pharmacy First service our pharmacist can examine the bite and supply treatment where it is appropriate, for anyone aged 1 and over. No GP appointment or referral is needed. We will also advise on how to care for the area and which warning signs to watch for. If you need further care, we will refer you to the right place.
